Al-Sheikh Ahmad Al-Din Al-Bakwi and his Efforts in Spreading the Arabic Language and Islamic Studies

Abstract

This article aims at highlighting the personality traits of Hazrat Sheikh Ahmad Ul-Din Buggwi who was one of the finest brains of his time. He occupied an unprecedented position in the literary circle of the sub-continent. He was born in 1803 in Bugga in the district of Jehlum. He got his education from eminent teachers of that time. He spent almost half a century in teaching Islamic art & literature. He was acknowledged by the titles of Mufti and Qadi in his times. He held a distinctive position in propagating Arabic literature. He was expert in Arabic morphology and syntax, erecting masjid, promoting and publishing the Islamic literature was his favourite interest. He also served as an Imam and Pulpitarain in Badshahi Masjid, Lahore from 1856 to 1869. He died in 1869. He is laid to rest in his tomb in the Khanqah of Shahi Masjid, Bhera in the district of Sargodha.
